WHY NEW VINTAGE DISCRETE MAY NOT COMPARE TO THE ORIGINAL

We often hear and read this comment. Simply stated, a good number of vintage copies do not sound and/or perform the same as their ancestors. Circuit modification aside, the main difference between the new and the old lies in several areas. Many of the vintage originals employed hand selected and tested components. During this period, the manufacturing of such devices was considered as much of an art as a science.
Production time and overall cost was secondary to the performance of the finished product.

Spectra Sonics has always held to these standards and never deviated. All Spectra Sonics discrete audio products are built under the same procedures that were used over 40 years ago. Hand selected parts, hand soldering and testing procedures are the same. In fact, numerous hand-built vintage test devices and platforms are still used in the production process.

COST VERSUS QUALITY: A BALANCING ACT

Some years ago, Spectra Sonics made the decision to sell product factory direct. The result is a more affordable product as well as factory support for application requirements. In addition, repair and refurbishing of equipment is completed in a more timely manner.
